2011 Calendars

Each year Paws on the Run creates a calendar filled with dog photos (and one cat!) and donates the proceeds from the sale to a local pet rescue. This year, Windy City Canine Rescue was chosen as the recipient.

The cost of the calendars is $20 and 100% of the proceeds will go towards helping the dogs in our care.  If you'd like to support us and have a fun calendar to hang on your wall, please send Paws on the Run an email (info@paws-on-the-run.ca) by December 3, 2010 to pre-order your calendar.  If you'd like to see what all the pages look like, visit their facebook page

Our adoption fee allows us to provide the basics for the dogs in our care, but we are always encountering additional expenses (dental work, medicine for illnesses, etc.).  If you would like to help dogs like this one, but aren't looking to adopt one at this time, please consider a donation.  Thank you.

Mya's foster mom has been training Mya (ADOPTED) in the art of Skijoring.  It is the perfect sport for weather like this!  And look how great she is at it!!!

For more information on Mya, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Micah {Lab cross} - Adopted

Micah is a 6-8 year old lab cross that was almost euthanized yesterday (until a wonderful vet clinic refused to do it and contacted us instead) and may just be the world's politest dog.

No matter how excited she gets she doesn't jump, instead she sits nicely at your feet.... and slowly inches closer if you don't respond with a pat.

She doesn't bark.  In the 24 hours we've had her, we haven't heard her bark once.

She is great with cats - her foster home's cat came up and sniffed her all over and she just sat still like a statue.  I think she was a little stunned that a cat would come so close.

She doesn't jump up on the furniture.

She is completely house trained.

She gets along great with other dogs.

For the life of us, we can't imagine her not being the perfect fit for almost any home.

For more information on Micah, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Piper {Rottweiler/Terrier cross}

Piper is a three year old Rottweiler/Terrier cross. She is an incredible dog who deserves an incredible home. Piper is a great dog that would make not only a great family pet, but an amazing athlete as well. She is very well behaved at home - calm, obedient, and respectful. Outside she can run for miles. She LOVES to run the coulees, and is a great jogging partner. She also does well running alongside the bike.

Piper has a great temperament and is kind, gentle and loving towards people. She loves everyone she meets. She is very snuggly (often tries to sit in your lap) and loves to cuddle in the morning. She is great with kids, and seems to really enjoy their attention.  She has had a lot of obedience training and is well mannered. She can sit, down, stay, come, shake a paw,  go to her bed, and more.

She is not without her issues though - Piper has issues with other dogs. This will need to be managed for the rest of her life. She is reactive to them on leash, and is not predictable with them off leash. The issue seems to be mostly her thinking that she needs to protect her owner. As long as her owner is not around she is fine - she even goes to doggy daycare! But on a walk it is a different story. She is used to walking on a halti and does really well, but she certainly needs work in this department.

Piper would do best as an only dog, but is great with cats. She would like to have her own family to love- kids included. She would also make an ideal companion for someone who likes to camp, hike, jog, or for someone wanting to do agility with their dog. She is certainly athletic enough! Really all she wants is someone to love her unconditionally. She is certainly deserving of it.

The Snuggler - ADOPTED

Mandy is a total snuggle bug.

So much so she is actually quite hard to photograph.

She was often sitting on my foot trying to get as close as possible.

Or looking to see if her Foster Dad's lap was available.

The only way I could get her to look at the camera was pretend to have food. Apparently treats trump snuggling every time!

For more information on Mandy, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Missy {Jack Russell Terrier} - ADOPTED

Missy is back and ready for adoption. She had been adopted out, but was returned only a week later after she didn't get along with a friends dog. Prior to her adoption it seemed as though she had allergies starting, and we finally have them under control (knock on wood)! Poor Missy has been through a lot and really needs to find a permanent, loving home.

Missy is 6 years old and has been with Windy City for seven months! Isn't that crazy? She is a fantastic dog and no one is sure why she hasn't been snatched up yet. She is great in the house- often found curled up under the blanket on the couch, or napping in sun patch. She is not demanding at all and is content to lay at your feet while you read, work, or watch TV. At the word "walk" she is up and ready though- she will walk for as long as you will! She is pretty good on leash and does her own Happy Dance at the sight of it. She loves to run in the coulees aswell, and will chase a ball for as long as you will throw it.

The only thing Missy loves more than a walk is a ball. She is ball crazy and would love nothing more than to carry one around all day. She likes to lie with it, and will actually curl up with it. It is very cute. She can catch it just about anyway you can throw it, and it is the quickest way to tire her out. She also likes to run beside the bike- she knows to stay away from the tires, and doesn't pull at all. She like to swim, and would make a great camping/hiking partner.

As I type this I realise that it sounds like Missy needs a ton of exercise- this isn't so!!! She is actually quite lazy, and is happy with her two walks a day. Often I am too busy for that even so we settle for a quick game of fetch after work. Although Jack Russells are well known for their hyperness Missy is definitely not that!

Missy loves all people and is very friendly. She is outgoing and happy. Dogs on the other hand are a different story. She is not comfortable around them, and will react badly on leash. We have been working very hard at this and she is now able to walk past a dog as long as you have her attention. This will continue to be a work in a progress. It is highly reccomended that Missy's adoptive family take Obedience classes right away. Missy is very obedient otherwise and can sit, down, stay, and comes when called. She knows what leave it means, and will run to her kennel on command. She is a smart girl this one!

Missy would do best as a single pet. She has learned self restraint around cats, but is not 100% trustworthy with them. She also has lived with dogs (is currently living with four others!) but really needs to be managed in that situation. She would be much happier as an only child. :) All she really needs though is a place to call home. She has been through a lot of changes in the past 7 months and is really in need of some stability. If you are interested in meeting this great girl please contact us!
