Lyla {Shepherd Cross}

Lyla is a young (around 1.5 years old), rambunctious, well adjusted shepherd cross.

If you are looking for a happy, fun loving, ready-for-anything kind of dog, please arrange to meet Lyla.  You'll love her.

We don't think Lyla has spent too much time in a house before as she still needs work on her housetraining and she isn't sure what possessions are yours and what are hers (in other words, she likes to chew on inappropriate items!).  That being said, this girl is a fast learner and is very eager to please. You just need to think of her as a giant puppy.  ;)

Lyla would be perfect for an active family or person who wants a dog that can go anywhere with them.  Lyla would love to go camping, hiking, biking around the neighbourhood with the kids, and visiting family (especially if they had another dog to play with).

For more information on Lyla, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Brodie {Miniature Pinscher} -Adopted

Brodie is a two year old Miniature Pinscher. He came from a local shelter, and from all appearances has had a pretty rough life so far. Brodie doesn't trust people very well and needs time to warm up before he is friendly. Once he knows you, he is affectionate and playful, but the getting-to-know-you period can take a little bit of time.
He is a great little companion and likes to sit on your lap. He's like a little hot water bottle!  He loves to sleep in bed with you but he will insist on getting under the blankets!  If you'd rather have your bed to yourself, he is also content to sleep in a crate. :)
Although he is small he does require a fair amount of exercise and loves to go for walks. He is great with other dogs, and ignores cats. Brodie is quite playful and is learning about toys. He loves to play fetch and he can't seem to resist a moving toy.
Brodie is housetrained already, and has good house manners but he would benefit from an obedience class to work on the basics. He is eager to please, is very smart and has already learned quite a bit from his foster home.
Brodie would do best in a quiet, child-free home.
For more information on Brodie, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

Tego {Corgi Cross} - ADOPTED

Tego is a three year old, male, Corgi cross. He has beautiful brindle markings and a personality to match!

Tego is good with dogs, cats and children. He's a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up to you quite fast. Tego loves to play fetch, tug-o-war and go for lots of walks. He has good leash manners!

He's housetrained, not an escape artist and loves to cuddle. He needs a little work on his house manners, but we know he will learn fast.  He has a few tricks up his sleeve.  Tego can Rollover, shake, high-five, sit, stay, come and lay down.

Tego needs a good home where someone will have time to be with him. Just give him a chance, we know you will love him.

For more information on Tego, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.

A Mellower Marley - ADOPTED

Marley is much loved by her foster home.  This is what they had to say about her.

Marley is happy, loving, friendly, gentle, playful and so, so well behaved.  She is loving her daily runs at the park - we go off leash for about an hour and try hard not to miss a day.  Now that things are finally warming up, I've discovered she likes to swim in the river and had an absolute blast play-biting the stream of water from the garden hose.

I can't believe the improvement in her coat since she's been on a high quality kibble.  When she first came to me, I was actually vacuuming her daily (yes she let me!) to get rid of all her dandruff and loose hair.  The dandruff is completely gone and she now has a beautiful shiny and soft coat - and way less shedding!

She met a few more young kids this past week and handled it like a perfect lady.  I haven't had any problems with her jumping the fence.  If she sees something exciting, she will bounce up and down so she can see over the top, but never actually goes anywhere even though she certainly could.  She loves her treats and if she sees me open the treat jar, or get out a stuffed kong, she zips into her kennel with being asked and waits eagerly for whatever is coming her way.

She continues to amaze me with her patience and respectfulness.  I can't say a bad thing about her.

Childrens Festival

Come and visit us this saturday at the Lethbridge Childrens Festival! We are excited to a part of this event as we feel that one of our biggest reponsibilities is to educate the public about responsible dog ownership, and the reasons why rescue exists. The Festival is full of family friendly activities for kids of all ages- I heard that there will be face paintining and crafts, and lots of things to keep kids busy. :) I also know there will be some fun dog demonstrations for kids to watch aswell! It is being held at the Exhibition grounds and runs from 10-7.

We will have a table set up all day and will have our kid friendly adoptables on site aswell. And we will have the last of our Easter Chocolate Bunnies for sale, aswell as fun handouts for the kids. So be sure to pop by to visit!

Finn update - ADOPTED

Finn came to us from a Calgary shelter when his time was up.  He was originally seized from his previous owners because of neglect and lack of appropriate shelter.  So when it was clear that Finn had just never been part of a family - we knew he deserved a chance for happiness.  it is amazing how resilient dogs are.  He went to a foster home with a lot of experience with dogs and this is what they have to say about him:

"Finn is just an amazing dog!  He now knows exactly how to react to my tones (for example, No really does mean NO!), and has very good manners in the house.  Finn is completely housetrained, comes when called, and knows sit, stay, shake a paw, lay down, and easily goes in and out of his crate.  At night, he sleeps on the floor in my bedroom with no issues.  He is also a very obedient running partner because he doesn’t stop to sniff, and stays right by my side.  I can’t believe his previous owners didn’t give him a chance to fit in.  He is great with other dogs, and very friendly to people.  He’s just a great dog!”

For more information on Finn, please contact the Windy City Canine Rescue at info@windycityrescue.com or by calling 403-359-3139.
